You have to remember that the PS2 never caused the games division to post losses this big. Oh, and the cost of PS2 hardware is a drop in the bucket compared to the PS3.

So by your standard a title of "Disaster of the Day: Sony" from forbes is not mainstream ?

That article was about the PS2s launch cost lowering the profits of their electronics division. However, the PS3 nearly a year after launch has posted a significant loss.

The ~25mil the forbes article cites is a joke compared to the >800mil the PS3 has lost them. Sure, they can eventually make up the losses, but that means a large amount of software sales and hardware sales. Currently the PS3 isn't exactly doing either. Also, the profits from the PS2 are nothing to sneeze at. But nice job bringing up services that have yet to launch, and may never launch.

Yeah, cause the article wasn't about the financial losses the PS3 has incurred, you know, stuff that might matter to investors. Thosearticles just wanted you to regret you're purchase - silly MS funded press.

Honestly people laugh at Sony for their loses yet Microsoft is still -7 billion for their game division (havent seen latest report yet) and they are in courts yet again over the 360 to extend the warrenty over all destroyed Games/Movies/CDs and the DVD drives, and the HD-DVD drive and HD-DVDs. Microsoft is on the verge of losing and this will be an even bigger hit then the 1 billion from the RROD case. The costs could easily top 3 billion dollars.
