The lack of stock must be playing part at least in Japan.

As for the Slim hype, what you say makes sense, but at the same time I would think many people don't even know the Slim is coming. I mean, it has happened before that a new model or a price cut got announced, but sales barely went down in the weeks in between the announcement and the actual price cut.

I'm not sure the general public is that informed.
