Nintendo - The kevin effect. - View Post

Now you go to a site like gametrailers and you see on the videos for upcoming games, like FF:CCCB, and you will take note of just how often it is that an otherwise unanimously agreed quality game is voted to 7.8.

This is what I call the kevin effect. A jock from the local high school, named Kevin, watches a video for New Super Mario Bros wii looks at this game and everyone who likes it "totally gay".

This leads me to believe that nearly every "Hardcorez" gamer around to start playing after 2001 is afraid to play this because the rest of the football team will think he is "Gay Brah".

So in order to protect his sexuality Kevin will go on to slam everyone else who likes games other than Madden and call of duty.

This leads to him feeling more "heterosexual". In light of his new coping method for his sexual insecurity, Kevin goes onto message boards and youtube video comment sections to, like before, bash any game that he finds to be "casual" or "gay".

Now that he is on the internet and can spread the effects of his insecurity, he feels much better about himself.

here are some questions to awnser/discuss.

1. how much of the hatred for the wii stems from insecurity about one's sexual preference?

2. what caused the Non-kevin-football player to make these comments?

3. What do you suppose causes the jockocracy to continue this line of thought in lieu of the increasing acceptance of homosexual relationships?
