No, he didn't. AT ALL. Don't compare Mario to Sonic, Mario's quality hasn't declined.

I was referring to Malstrom's point, not to Mario itself.

 

I've always been of the opinion that 3D Mario > 2D Mario, actually, since Mario 64 was my first game ever.
