Nintendo are ready to fight Sony and Microsoft in the motion control arena, a fight that they can win.

Indeed.

As Montecuccoli said: "For war, you need three things: Money, Money and Money."

Some people tend to forget, how Nintendo has all three of these, while the (technically bigger) companies game divisions are in survival mode, after losing several billion dollars. If Nintendo would feel threatened in their current market, they could even spend huge amounts on paying for 3rd party exclusives, or buying some big 3rd parties as a last resort. They could cut their price to 100$ and maybe still be profitable. They could sell their biggest software hits for $10, and still make profit with them.

While, if the other two would lose  a single billion on motion controllers, in the current situation the most likely wouldn't take the risk, and return to their traditional, profitable games.
