Sony shipped 1.31 million PS3 consoles in the quarter and posted an $841 million loss - averages out to losing $641.98 for every PS3 sold

Actually more. PS3 is the only money losing part of Sony\\\'s gaming division. PSP and PS2 likely turn a tidy profit. So, the real losses on PS3 are something more than $841 million, since that number includes PSP and PS2 profits, although we dont know how much.

Although, it\\\'s difficult to say exactly how much Sony is losing per PS3, since they could be doing crazy financial things like "amortizing PS3 R&D", and I believe a manufactored PS3 goes on the balance sheet immediatly where the sale could take some time,. But suffice to say, it\\\'s a shedload.

Well, the question is there also how much they loose on software: Developing it cost money, lots of it. How many games Sony has in their pipeline that arn\'t release yet?

Very true. I think Killzone 2 is very expensive, I read that there have been hundreds of developers working on it in the Netherlands for a long time.
