| puffy said: I don't know how old this thread is but how come I haven't seen it before!? I recently read 'The Innovators Dilemma' by CM Christensen and it's amazing looking back on this generation, and how it's unfolding and seeing how everything is going exactly according to plan. When Nintendo said they wanted to make motion controls the new standard, they were basically telling everybody what their strategy was for the Wii. They wanted to battle Sony and Microsoft, not in hardware and graphics capabilities but in values. Basically if Nintendo could establish a new set of values and move upstream to the xbox/playstation audience, then Sony and Microsoft would have no choice but to defend with these new values. The problem is that these companies are set in their ways and their motion controls, their answer to the Wii, will not fit with the values of the Wii. Nintendo already has 3+ years of working with motion controls and are still trying to get things right (see Wii Music). Nintendo have begun moving upstream with the launch of Wii MotionPlus. They need to ensure it is heavily supported with all kinds of titles in every genre to continue the move upstream successfully. Nintendo are ready to fight Sony and Microsoft in the motion control arena, a fight that they can win. |
This too... Ok i agree with you puffy that since nintendo have experince in the motion control area where they are becoming more and more successful..But the question really is that are MS and Sony ready to go into that era of motion controllers just yet? will third parties support them as much as they supported nintendo also what will they think of Natal. Developers are going to have to find new things to do with natal like how are people going to turn run or walk in the game..it will be diffcult at the beginnning so will some developers just give up annd keep working on the wii..also what will developers do with sony's motion control? will they make similar games like wii or will they make completely different games?
this is what i suspect will happen. As for natal developers are gonna have a hard time in the beginning and push out some crappy games...people will get bored and hardcore gamers will still be complaining if microsoft chooses not to support the traditional controller. with that said, sony's motion controller is very similar to that of nintendo's and both have 1:1 (nintendo has proven it) so will developers just take games like wii sports and make those types of games. Yes thats what most likely will happen because seeing the success of wii series developers will do something similar while some big creative developers wanting a challenge will make a new type of game..What i think will also happen is that then those new games on the ps3 will start to come on the wii more rather than the ps3 and successful games on the wii will go to the ps3...
so basically i think that just like how peoplee say that 360 and ps3 are similar and wii is different than people will say that ps3 and the wii are similar in terms of games...while 360 will become the more different one after natal and sony's motion controller comes out..
