I don't know how old this thread is but how come I haven't seen it before!?

I recently read 'The Innovators Dilemma' by CM Christensen and it's amazing looking back on this generation, and how it's unfolding and seeing how everything is going exactly according to plan. When Nintendo said they wanted to make motion controls the new standard, they were basically telling everybody what their strategy was for the Wii. They wanted to battle Sony and Microsoft, not in hardware and graphics capabilities but in values.

Basically if Nintendo could establish a new set of values and move upstream to the xbox/playstation audience, then Sony and Microsoft would have no choice but to defend with these new values. The problem is that these companies are set in their ways and their motion controls, their answer to the Wii, will not fit with the values of the Wii. Nintendo already has 3+ years of working with motion controls and are still trying to get things right (see Wii Music). Nintendo have begun moving upstream with the launch of Wii MotionPlus. They need to ensure it is heavily supported with all kinds of titles in every genre to continue the move upstream successfully.

Nintendo are ready to fight Sony and Microsoft in the motion control arena, a fight that they can win.
