Well, they won't ever do that. I would agree with that. IMO it was just a funny remark resulting in a lot of overreaction. They have enough surplus €quity to cover that in theory. And yes, the PS3 could well end up selling 80M by the end of it's lifecycle, but it won't beat the Wii. It doesn't matter if the Wii is a toy or an ice-cream maker, it will still sell more.
I can't say with certainty, if I were Nintendo I would release a "Wii HD" based on radically new technology for the short term (within a year or two). It wouldn't matter to me if they rereleased an upgraded Snes for the Chinese market, which in theory could outsell PS3 and Wii combined and be very profitable, I would still view the technology as a distant past generation. |
Why would they release a WiiHD? It makes no sense from a financial nor sales perspective. Also, are you really trying to use the SNES as an analogy for the Wii? That since its technology is older it shouldn't count? The Wii isn't old technology, it is greater than or equal to every console last gen in terms of all specs. And its controller is far newer than their competitors. You said "I love daring new technology", yet for some reason you don't like the new technology of the Wii?
