Your bottom line is correct, but Sony cant give away 100M consoles for free by selling off their assets, and that's what I was referring to.

Well, they won't ever do that. I would agree with that.

IMO it was just a funny remark resulting in a lot of overreaction. They have enough surplus €quity to cover that in theory.

And yes, the PS3 could well end up selling 80M by the end of it's lifecycle, but it won't beat the Wii. It doesn't matter if the Wii is a toy or an ice-cream maker, it will still sell more.

I can't say with certainty, if I were Nintendo I would release a "Wii HD" based on radically new technology for the short term (within a year or two). It wouldn't matter to me if they rereleased an upgraded Snes for the Chinese market, which in theory could outsell PS3 and Wii combined and be very profitable, I would still view the technology as a distant past generation.
