Both.  Depends on who you ask.

Oblviously, Christians think that Jesus was a Jew, and was the son of god. 

Muslims think that Jesus was a prohpet and was a Muslim because he understood God's true message.  For the same reasoning, Muslims like to think of other pre-Islam prophets who recieve God's message as Muslim, examples including Abraham to Egyptian Pharoah Akhnaten who tried to convert Egypt into monotheism (thinking he did this because of God's influence).
