My Sony predictions have come true for the most part, including the billions of dollars in losses that no one talked about before January.
Actually I did, I stated many times over Sony sold the PS3 far too cheaply considering the technology the device provides. This approach is only feasible with a long term approach. But I think it's better to generate a loss by providing underpriced technology (to win a long term valuable format war and generate a sustainable gaming userbase) than it is to generate big losses mainly from mass hardware failures.
By sacrificing PC game development, IMO it was to be expected the XBox 360 would well outperform the original XBox. |
I was not talking about the PS3 losses there, more about the losses due to the strong yen and the recession for Sony as a whole.

But from the grand perspective Sony's losses were minor compared to the other major Japanese consumer electronics firms.
Sony can take it, they have been very profitable for so many years. A bit of hardship along the way may well strenghten the company for the long run. Also a strong yen and weak dollar make losses look bigger than they really are, when counting in dollars.
