Not really in the star wars universe, history repeats itself, the Dark side takes over for a while, another rebellion forms, lots of Jedi die, then eventually defeats the dark side and then enjoys a period of peace and prosperity, until again the dark side rises again, rinse and repeat. You'd think someone would learn from history at some point.
