As for a lighter console using (even) less power, that's probably happening incrementally... I don't see why Nintendo shouldn't perform die shrinks of their CPU and GPU to reduce their cost.

 

That is more likely. Unless there are some issues to fix, unrelated to the insides, the system design is fine. That's why the 360 just had interior redesigns to make it work right.
