Damn those developers for filling games with all this frivolous gameplay nonsense

Gameplay should not come before narrative, because without narrative gameplay has no context or meaning.

Gameplay does not need a meaning to be fun.

The problem with that outdated thinking is that it assumes games "must" be "fun".

Most people wouldn't describe the shindlers list as "fun" but possibly enjoyable. A game can be thought provoking and enjoyable but not fun.

You sir have missed out on the gem that is Earthbound.

I think you missed my point or I was unclear about it. A game can be fun and nothing else. A game can also be fun and thought provoking. A game can ALSO be thought provoking and enjoyable but not fun in the common sense off the word. My point each of these types of games can co-exist, rather than just delegating games as nothing more than a for fun medium.
