For the vast majority of people they hype will not exist.  Yes the PS3 will be cheaper and that is what most people will pay attention to.  Most people wont give a damn that the PS3 slim is smaller.  The idea that the average consumer is going "wow look at that the PS3 is smaller, I gotta have one" is a joke.
