...um, I think the point here is that FF isn't the domineering, must-buy-at-all-cost system-moving franchise some people believe it to be. If FFXII could only manage that level of sales on the world-conquoring PS2, what hope would 13 have on the PS3?!? |
Did you even read what I said? 4.94 million still puts FF12 in the top 80 all-time in sales, ahead of games such as Tomb Raider 2, Dragon Quest 7 and 8, Yoshi Island, and Gears of War just to name a few. You make it sound like the PS3 will make it SO HARD to sell, when I named a bunch of games that sold more than FF12 for 3 systems that got dominated the last 2 generations. I was saying that there is a good chance albionus will be wrong that FF13 will be the worst selling FF game after FF7.
And let me say this again: The 2 best selling FF games ever after FF6? The 2 that were the first to release on a console.
You say: "I think the point here is that FF isn't the domineering, must-buy-at-all-cost system-moving franchise some people believe it to be." What evidence do you have to support that? FFX sold more than Halo 2! FF7 sold more than both and Gran Turismo 2 and 4, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Kart (wow), Donkey Kong Country, and the list goes on. I'm not sure how you can say that and not be completely kidding. I hope you were.
Edit: "Squaresoft was once an all-Nintendo publisher, giving the company its valued Final Fantasy series exclusively. Once Square jumped ship and ran to Sony and its lovely CD format, the console war was already over." That is the power of Final Fantasy, and that is why I became a Sony fan (was a big NES/SNES fan). http://www.gamesradar.com/us/wii/game/features/article.jsp?articleId=2007040911262588028&releaseId=20060308165433320026§ionId=1003&pageId=2007040912232261074
