The point is, if a gamer is so impressed with the platform and the XBL service, $199 is a very reasonable starting point. There are plenty of people without a lot of money, particularly outside the US in nations where any video games carry a premium price and gaming simply isn't a significant market in the entertainment sector. Dropping the price of the hardware to $149 would hardly change that unless the price of all new games was slashed across the board as well.
$149 will probably be the bottom for the Xbox 360 based on production costs and profit margins, barring $99 hardware clearing sales when the console is replaced, which I don't believe will happen for years.
The Wii will hit $99 long before that ever happens.
