I think between Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong alone he has earned the respect he gets in this industry ...
When you include games like Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Nintendogs, Brain Training, Wii Sports and his involvement with (pretty much) every Nintendo made game of the past 20 years it becomes clear that there is no other designer who has had as much influence on the industry (and there may never be) ...
