Hmm, I know a lot of this. I remember getting my new rig and wanting to crank up Oblivion to the max to behold those awesome visuals the promo shots bespoke. Guess what? It didn't happen, the graphics, even on max with a patch allowing both Bloom and HDR and all the good shit at once it wasn't even close. Bullshot indeed.
Crysis was even worse, the final product is miles away from the promo shots, even running on the craziest rigs with everything on max (and 15-20 FPS...) some of the textures are horrible (trees, canopy, some walls, rocks and other brush) it is no where near the promo shots.
Interesting read selnor, but I'm quite sure most of us in here already know that promo shots are usually heavily tampered with!
