I'd be really surprised if Sony continued to sell the "fat" model of the PS3 after the Slim introduced. Usually only portable consoles sell multiple types of the same hardware. With home consoles, usually the newer model replaces the older one. I highly doubt Sony is still even manufacturing "fat" models at this point. So if you bro wants a fat, he should buy right after the Slim is introduced. Retailers will most likely cut the price below the Slim model to clear inventory.
