There where two people who said Pokemon is expanding. It's not. My point was to look at the situation that the two games are releasing in. R/S did poorly compared to the earlier two. D/P only did slightly better despite that more people have access to Pokemon. There are a lot of people, a lot of different people, who own a DS. Not many of the new people bought D/P. Pokemon may be in decline, but it was helped by the amazing sales of the DS. Pokemon 5 may very well be a Pokemon bomb (still doing well, but is much weaker in terms of influence).

Is your definition of a decline “the act or process of increasing; growth”?

The figures speak for themselves. It doesn’t matter how the sales got there they are growing. Personally I’d be amazed if my DS owning grandparents (or parents for that matter) turned around with a copy of Pokemon Diamond and/or Pearl. Clearly there's a drop off from the 2nd to 3rd generation but as others have said you have to remember Pokemon was a fad when those titles were released.
