Fans of the series will no doubt pick up the game, and maybe a few new comers if Sony markets the game right, regardless, the game will own. GOW1 was released when Sony only had the PS2 on the market, when GOW2 was launched the PSP, PS2 and the PS3 were all on the market, pretty sure the PSP and PS3 caused a little distraction for people when GOW2 got released. GOW2 was released too late in the PS2's lifecycle, and its sales took a hit.
