For me, it's more a hardcore gamer a guy who still plays a 2d platformer/rpg like super paper mario than a guy who refuses to play anything that doesn't have hd resolution. that is an elite gamer.
Being a cinema lover, i recall Martin Scorsese documentary about italian movies and the beautiful descriptions he offers, and one thing he said was that a lot of that movies were seen on an old, tiny, black and white tv set. Later in life he saw them in movie theaters but the impact they had on him, was from seeing them the first time.
