I'd also like to add that most Wii owners also own a DS as well. And most people who own a DS have NSMB. If Nintendo had changed the artstyle of the game for the Wii, the DS players would feel alienated, therefore possibly losing sales. You have to look at this stuff from a business perspective and not just a "I want" perspective.
A prime example of a game losing sales because it looks different than its predeccessors is Madden 10 for the Wii. People all over the net are saying they are not buying Madden 10 Wii because of it's new look. The reason is because they now feel alienated so they no longer think the game is meant for them.
