I don't believe it was. The first announced release date was Dec. 3, 2007 as I can recall. Nintendo only wanted to release one big 1st party title at launch and it was Zelda. They didn't want to interfere with sales of their own games. So they depended on 3rd parties to launch the Wii off. Can you imagine if Mario, Zelda, SSBB etc. launched on the same day?
