This goes out to anyone who's experiencing freezes on the later 40GB and 80GB models. If you've had the system for awhile, or it's seen a fair amount of use, dust may be accumulating inside the case. Enough dust will clog up the HSF cooling system, resulting in reduced cooling efficiency, higher temps and more fan noise as the fans spin faster to compensate. If this sounds like your situation (console runs louder than it use to), CLEAN OUT THE CASE. You can used compressed air, but the later model PS3s have a built in cleaning function. 1) Power down console 2) Flip off power switch on back of console 3) Hold down on Eject button 4) Flip on power switch on back of console (while holding Eject) The fans will spin at max speed and a great cloud of dust will probably fly out the back of your console. That's what causes overheating, and that's what can cause freezes and even eventual hardware failure due to thermal fatigue of the main chipset. |
Sony said not to use this method, coze it may damage the GPU
The PS3 it self gives u a flashing red light (which means the system temperature is dangerously hight) and then it will self shut down
