The back up is fine when you are restoring the files to the same PS3. Unfortunately, I was going to switch a new 80GB for my brother's 60GB. When I restored the files to the new PS3, the locked saved files did not transfer. In other words, I bought a PS3 for the express purpose of swapping it for the older superior model and I won't be able to do that.
