There are loads of problems with quality standards. The first is that how good a game is can't be known until it is completed. By then developers have spent money. This does include big HD games that turn out bad. That would be worse than anything Nintendo did in their old policy days.

Another is that not everyone will have the same standards. Metacritic can't be a gauge anymore, with the reviews coming across more as fanboy whining some of the time.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
