Uematsu's finest work indeed.
Sorry but I really don't understand people disliking IX unless they are just the "ZOMG KIDDY" people. The music, characters, and style were brilliant. It's exactly what a 3D FF game should have been in the first place... not FFVII. |
The music was great, no doubt about that. Characters other than Vivi, I really couldn't care for less... Especially Zidane, I thought his design was great but he felt hollow to me. The style was fitting I suppose, it's just that the game nearly bored me to death. The story felt extrememly bland and the gameplay and pacing just felt dull. Don't know why but I had more fun with 2, 3, 4, 7, and 10-2 even the the core gameplay was pretty much the same for all 6... atleast that's how it felt to me. But sometiimes a boring story with characters I don't care about often ruins the gameplay for me so that may have played a part.
Perhaps I just didn't play long enough, but after making it a few hours into Disc2 I just stopped. I just don't think it should take that long for a game to grab my interest. FF3 was a bit slow but it was somewhat enjoyable for me. FFVI grabbed my attention quite quickly and it also felt like a harder game, and I like a more challenging experience. FFVII grabbed my attention right away with the begining. 10-2's gameplay was just plain fun compared to all the other FF's for me, and although I didn't play 10 yet, the story wasn't amazing and when I had to return the disc to my bro I was only 49% done, I actually enjoyed it. 9, 12 and then 3 I guess are so far the weakest parts of the series for me.
As for not liking them because of some Kiddy impression, I loved Golden Sun, it's one of my [if not my] favourite RPG series and the characters felt just as young, if not a little younger than FF9.
