Iwata wasn't refering to the content when he said that. He specifically pointed out not being able to convey the charm of New Super Mario Bros. Wii on stage properly, similar to how Nintendo seem to think they failed to communicate Wii Music to the market properly.
The content was great but they're right, I didnt get as ecited as I should have at the advent of New Super Mario Bros. Wii (I am now though!) and many still think it's a port of the DS version..
