It isn't up to some arbitrary standard, so they shouldn't let their customers know it exists?

The OP asked whether Nintendo advertising for their current online setup is a sign of them taking online seriously. My post you quoted is the response to that, and is an emphatic "no". Actions like making more online enabled games, streamlining the system more, and adding important features like Wii Speak is what will make them have a better reputation in regards to online. It wouldn't need to be advertised if there were more games that were online enabled. The reason they need to put these adverts out is because they have a flawed system that requires a tutorial to use and because a large amount of very popular games from Nintendo that should have online multiplayer do not. The solution to getting their reputation up is not to advertise for and explain how to operate the current system, it's to correct it so the same word of mouth that makes Nintendo's titles so evergreen will then work for the online.
