Sega explains why they published The Conduit

That being said, what is appears that Sega is doing is trying to build a market for a certain type of fare on the Wii. By publishing more "mature" fare, it is quickly becoming the publisher of note for that type of game. So it is a long-term strategy which could pay-off (and by that I mean pay money), if Sega sticks to it and continues publishing such titles -- which should improve in quality as companies develop more and play with the graphics more.

Well, Sega released House of the Dead: Overkill in America, then Madworld outsold it. Then Sega published The Conduit in America, and that outsold Madworld.

 

They aren't selling 9 MILLION COPIES A MINUTE!!!!!, but sales are progressively getting better. If you check the Wii charts in general for the 'important'* games, they are doing kind of good.

 

*Important means: Sega, Capcom, THQ, Activision, Ubisoft, (insert your favorite here)

 

Good points. This supports what I said -- Sega is building a market (and appears to be doing a successful job at it).

My concern would be that if somebody starts worrying about quartelry reports, then the long-term strategy gets put in the dumper. Of course, that would be the American way of doing business. (This is a crack on American business' over-emphasis of short-term results, not anything else).

That's the reason so many companies lose money- lack of a long-term focus. However, I recently read an excerpt from an article on GoNintendo and it seems publishers are coming around, and getting a much better grasp of how the Wii operates, along with developers.

 

Long-term gain is the name of the game. The future! lol
