This is what the PS1 really does have over all other consoles; you could just pop PS1 games into a stereo and you're listening to the soundtrack.
For instance, if you put Wipeout 2097 or 3 into a CD player, you can listen through the licensed soundtrack like a proper CD, even rip it to your computer like a normal album. Not all games could do it, but a lot could.
Man, I miss that.
