Edit: To make it clearer, I mean that I disagree entirely with Nintendo's vision that gameplay reigns supreme over other constituent parts of a game. A work of art, even an entertainment one, is a well bred mix of various functions and forms. Italian plumbers rescuing princesses from a gigantic talking turtle doesn't appeal me an inch, no matter how interesting the gameplay might be. This is merely an example of the gripes I have with the core Nintendo values.

It really does though. It's the one thing that really distinguishes the medium. That doesn't entail that the other elements aren't very important of course (they can make the difference between a good game and a truly great game) it just means that none of those elements is as important as gameplay.

If you have an amazing story with excellent characterization, a top-notch sound track, great acting, fantastic visual effects/graphics and the best script that's ever been written BUT your gameplay completely sucks... then don't make a game, make a movie.
