Price reductions on current production (actually earlier production as I'm convinced Slim production is currently underway) models will probably be seen right around or immediately following the introduction of the new slim model.
I wouldn't be surprised if you could pick up a current 80GB model for $299 on the remaining stock in inventory channels when that happens.
It's for this same possibility that I could see the slimline originally being priced at $349-399 until the old inventory has been cleared, making way for a "price dropped" $299 slimline by the holidays.
