That's a pretty dramatic redesign. The problem with removing the hard drive is compatibility with titles that require an install. Internal memory would need to be greater than 10 gig to allow up to 2 installed games at a time. The faster Blu-ray speed would remove the install requirement for newer PS3's, but it doesn't seem likely that developers will revisit their existing games to patch out the install. Many of them refuse to provide a trophy patch, I suspect that this would take much more work than that. It would be an interesting approach, but I don't think it's likely.
