Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are all always in contact with third party publishers emphasizing their strenghts and minimizing their weakness' in order to secure development for thier platforms. Right now Nintendo's two main strengths are that they have a larger userbase and smaller development costs which are an impressive combination that is likely having an impact on publishers.
