I played the gamecube titles for a bit. They're were fun party games, but I've just never heard them given that title. |
I refer to Monkey Ball as a hardcore franchise because it certainly wasn't casual. Its an established brand played by hardcore gamers. It was most successful on GameCube compared to X-Box and PS2. It was played mainly by hardcore Nintendo fans not the casual audience found on PS2.The franchise itself was successful where others (Marble Madness and modern Kororinpa) failed, Sega etched out a niche market with the marble genre or what ever you think it should be called (Puzzle game maybe).
Being one of Sega's core franchises I think it deserves to be designated hardcore.
