I dislike it because it limits discussion. When a thread grows to a certain size, new people stop checking it. You end up with the same 5-10 people posting in it over and over.
Instead of one big "XYZ" thread, I'd rather 5 "XYZ" threads. The website is more active that way and it's friendlier/less intimidating to people who want to jump into the conversation.
