I must say Sony needs to be concerned by their consoles sales. While it is true they are enjoying a greater market share for this week as compared to last year. The contraction of the market is also raising the bar. Retailers are being forced to maximize profit potential, and if someone is going to take the fall it will be the low guy on the totem pole.
This is going to have a impact on holiday ordering. Retailers cannot play the field as loose as they have been over the past few years. There may not be room for three consoles in the market anymore in North America. This is a problem, and I am not sure how Sony is going to make the point that retailers need to carry their product.
Not necessarily talking about the cancellation of the console, but retailers may put more muscle behind the other two. While basically neglecting the third. I expect to see more promotional sales for Wii and 360 software in the near term. Sony needs to show some strengthening to ensure they are not left abandoned by retailers.
