"When it is added it is perceived value thusly the consumer will think it is worth more."
That is if the gamer has access to online play, which isn't always the case, and doesn't apply to every game.
But regardless, this is the first game of this team, even if the people have experience in other game companies. Trust me, it's more important they make a good game first, and then they have that out of the way so they can focus on making the next game even bigger.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
