I don't know that you guys are really disagreeing that much. I had the feeling that they were rushing brawl a little bit originally to make the holidays. I don't think it is that far fetched to believe that they gave the situation a second look and decided "We have no need to rush, lets do everything exactly right.".
Not saying that it has to be the case, but its not out of the realm of possibility. Either way I think the decision to push back development was made based on the reasons mentioned in this thread thus far (ie quality, lack of urgency, giving other titles a breather), but I think the main reason was quality almost certainly quality.
