I avoided this thread until I discovered that d21lewis left VGC because of something posted in it. Then I read this and felt compelled to provide an answer. As a political science major, one of the subjects I have studied is political development in West Africa. There are a few examples of great kingdoms that originated in Sub-Saharan Africa. I stress Sub-Saharan Africa for a reason: it is known as the land of the blacks. While there is debate about the race(s) of the Egyptians, there is no doubt that a political entity originating in Sub-Saharan Africa is black. For me, the most enjoyable kingdom to study was the Mali Empire. The Mali Empire was a massive empire that contained approximately 43 million people. It was quite wealthy. In fact, the hajj of Mansa Musa, mansa (emperor) of Mali, was famous for the amount of wealth and splendor displayed by his court. Reportedly, he spent and donated so much gold in Cairo that it depressed the price of gold for approximately a decade. He also incorporated and expanded the famous city of Timbuktu. Timbuktu is home to the prestigious Sankore University and was a major contributor to Islamic civilization. |
And it's also the place you threaten to send people if they piss you off lol
