The reward my friend is silent in the wind. Even handed intelligent posting does have its rewards. You are heard if not recognized. Remember that lurkers make up the bulk of the readers. So even if your not being told your making good points. Your probably making a good point to somebody even if they are not responsive. So do not let them get you down.
Why do fellow posters behave idiotically. Well as in all human behavior if the response is positive then people will continue to do it. Unless they actually have a moral code they try to adhere to. Generally high minded posters try to post well out of a sense of self respect or a sense of accomplishment. They actually want to grow and want to contribute. This world is filled with the proverbial grasshopper and far too few ants. Sadly winter never seems to come does it.
My best advice is to ignore the idiots, and fawn on the geniuses. That is like starving the troll and feeding the valiant knight. Praise good posts, and good posters. Make it a point to respond to their posts, and ignore the gibberish. The best therapy in the end however is just to ignore them and focus on what you are saying. Intelligent people pass over idiotic shit, and move to the meat of any thread.
