At 40'' and below though, 1080P is more or less indistinguishable at normal viewing distances (say, 7 feet away from a 40'' screen).
The difference is there, regardless.
Well, yeah, that's true, there is a difference....but look at it like this. On a 37 inch screen, you need to be setting within 5 feet of the screen with perfect vision to get the full benefit of 1080p. If you are setting 10 feet away, you can't tell the difference at all.
Some people on this thread have claimed there is a huge advantage to 1080p vs 720 in most instances. Even in the best case scenerio, the advantage isn't huge, and in the worst, it is completely negligable.
Now that plasma is dying, and you can get the 720p 50 inch plasmas from SAMSUNG for 800 dollars....when in reality, most people can't, nor will ever be able to tell much of a difference....yes, I think buying a 800 dollar 32 inch 1080p LCD is a complete and utter waste of money.
That is my opinion.
Now earlier, I hinted that there might be some science behind this, and that I could "prove" my point, but I really can't. I was just angry at an earlier post, and went off on a rant. Ignore that. Consider this my real response to the 1080p question.
I'll watch that vid right now, but first, let me say that I edited my earlier post after rereading it, because I felt it was arrogant and ignorant to a certain extent. My post just above this one is the response that I should have given originally. Watching vid now.
Edit: It was a chart, noscript blocked it like a vid.
I found this post and liked it a lot:
It would depend on your sitting distance from the display. Here is a chart to see what I mean:
Bigger is usually better, and to a lesser extent, 1080p is better than 720p. The only reason why 1080p vs 720p is less of an improvement compared to size has to do with screen size, content viewed on it, how far away you sit, and how good your eyesight is.
If you watch a lot of SD content, then 720p might actually look better with this content compared to 1080p since it doesn't have to guess at as many pixels that must be added to these fixed pixel displays.
I don't need your console war. It feeds the rich while it buries the poor. You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores. I don't need your console war.
