I don't know which stores you shop at, but I can't find any 40"+ HDTV sets that are 720p without also having 1080i/p these days.  So I don't see how buying a less than 52" HDTV that has 1080p is wasting money when cheaper 720p-only sets in the 40"+ size range don't seem to exist.

Other than this quirky statement, I agree entirely with your post.

Oh, well, I actually think that any TV that is 720p, is also capable of 1080i, since 1080i is actually an inferior picture.

As for which stores I shop at, I shop online, and I've never seen a 720p tv that couldn't also produce the lesser 1080i picture.

As for which TVs are available cheaper in the 40+ range,  this TV is half the price of almost any 1080p TV, and completely equal in every way, no one in the world, could tell the difference with the human eye, and again, it is less than half the price of the same TV in 1080p:

As a matter of fact, yes, most large screen TVs are available in a much, much cheaper 720p version, and anything that is 1080p under 52 inches, is a complete waste of money imo.
