^ You are right. Nintendo only cares about 1st party software sales. Then why did Nintendo devote a large chunk of E3 to 3Ps? 3rd parties are still struggling on the Wii. 3Ps have sold more on Wii than 360/Ps3. ......... Yes, the Wii Sports, Wii Fits, Carnival games, Guitar Hero, Mario Kart (MK is casual now?), Wii Plays of the world do well on the Wii but releasing a title aimed at gamers on the Wii isn't sure to sell. Brawl Galaxy and Zelda say hi. And even if a core title does reach 1 mil the dev. could have spent their time on a Fitness or Mini game compilation and possibly done just as good or better with less effort.
I'm just saying that if the casual crowd doesn't come out and buy Nintendo's next console they may be hurting financially in a few years...Nintendo won't be hurting financially for a few centuries. Also, it isn't graphics or even Waggle that keeps alot of core gamers from buying or enjoying Wii's. I think it is the absolutely TERRIBLE online support. So now you want online for those 'casual' games that aren't made for you? Terrible online is such bullshit. There is a reason why tons of people support the 360 over PS3 and Xbox Live is a big part of it. So Nintendo cheaps out with online but paying a sub for Live and getting P2P connections isn't cheap? Also, don't kid yourself, casual gamers are far more internet savy than Nintendo would give them credit for. Those same "casual" gamers have Facebook accounts and iPhone's/iPod Touches which could start to hurt Nintendo's portable share in the long run as well...We've had nearly 30 years without online on consoles, some games need online, most don't. Local multiplayer is king IMO and no-one does it better than Nintendo. Nintendo doesn't want the image of a gamer to go back to the teenage boy in his bedroom, staring blankly inches away from the TV all on his lonesome.

On topic.
If I reviewed this game solely on gaming mechanics, innovation, gameplay and longevity I'd give it a 10. If the arcades were still alive this is the game everybody would flock to. Nintendo could have cheaped out and just put 5 of the best games in this reduced price title and I'd bet it would still get the same review scores. Years from now, when people are playing the future blockbusters they are going to see that the fundamental game mechanics that they love so much were born in this game, probably moreso than in Wii Sports. This game has shown me exactly what we can expect in the future and I can't wait. So many IPs will be able to benefit from Resort's controls. Going from Wii Sports to Wii Sports Resort reminds me of going from my NES to my SNES.

So..how is Wii Sports Resorts innovative?
I haven't played the game so I can't say whether it deserves a 10 or not(it very well might, I'm picking it up on the 26th
), but judging a game that WORKS from gaming mechanics, innovation as you describe it, gameplay and longevity you could give every single Madden game ever made a 10. Any sports game for that matter, and most fighting games.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
