CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.
Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,
tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what
they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
tbh though, the political compass tends to slant your results to the left a bit though it is definitely the best test I have seen so far.
I am a registered Republican because my beliefs on most moral issues are far, FAR closer to theirs than the Dems, but my views on economics and personal freedoms are often widely divergent from those that you normally think of as 'Republican'.
