Just some random thoughts.

Graphics do matter -- but only to a point. I test-played both Ridge Racer 7 (PS3) and Excite Truck (Wii) in the days leading to system release. Not surprising RR7 looked much better. But Excite Truck "felt" faster. People sometimes forget that graphics without gameplay is only "eye candy" -- nice in the short run but something you would not play in the long run.

There are some attach rate issues with the Wii. Having a pack-in game will do that. Also, having some users who buy it just for that pack-in game (or just because they like the idea of playing virtual golf a-la Tiger Woods) is another [my evidence here is purely anecdotal from people whom I know]. So unlike the other two systems, there is a portion of people who own the console who are not looking to buy (many) more games for it.

As for variety, the Xbox 360 probably has the best right now. Of course, what its owners generally want -- Halo 3 -- sometimes differences from what is offered -- Viva Pinata. In other words, there are games on that console would be big sellers on another console -- but cannot go multiplatform because they are by second-party development houses. (In other words, how big of a seller would Viva Pinata Wii be?)

Finally, it is interesting that worldwide sales of the PS3 roughly tracks those of the Xbox 360 for the same "time from launch." Of course, that is not good news for Sony since they actually get people in the three largest global game markets to buy them while Microsoft is selling all but a small percentage to North Americans and Europeans.

(I would love to report on the Wii vs. PS2 but I cannot seem to get the graher to work today).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
